CPDPP.Indigenous Tobacco Cessation Module
This specialty module, built in partnership with the SCA, focuses on tobacco cessation with Indigenous populations in Saskatchewan. The module includes:
- Overview of Indigenous Peoples in Saskatchewan and Canada
- Social determinants of health and tobacco smoking rates in Indigenous communities
- The difference between commercial and traditional tobacco in Indigenous culture
- Culturally appropriate cessation methods
- Traditional ways of quitting
The Indigenous Tobacco Cessation Module is a foundational module which provides a high-level introduction for any health provider who is working with Indigenous populations. The module was created by an expert who works within tobacco cessation and Indigenous culture. We recognize that the Pan-Indigenous approach does not reflect the cultural differences between First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Culture in Canada. We encourage all providers to continue learning about these cultures by reaching out to their communities and building local relationships within their communities to further explore the local cultural practices. The new module is now available on the CPDPP website.
