Private Insurers

Private Insurers

Private insurers are any organization, which a patient or their employer contracts with, to pay for a portion of a patient’s medical expenses, which include insurance companies such as Great West Life, GMS, Sun Life, etc. Provincial and federal drug plans also may pay for a portion of a patient’s medical expenses, but they publically funded and have their own sub-sections in this website.

Insurance companies or private payors, often utilize adjudicators to process prescriptions and services online. For more information on adjudicators please see online adjudicators.

PAS is a part of the third party payor working group along with the other Provincial associations, organized by the CPhA (Canadian Pharmacists Association). The main goals of the group are to determine issues related to reimbursement of pharmacy benefits that impact the ability to provide quality care, address these issues and improve the working relationship with third party payors (adjudicators, private payors, insurance companies) to achieve these goals.
